Yoo Myung-ho (59), CEO of Unilok Co., Ltd., has been successfully leading the company for 32 years since opening its doors in 1984.

Unilok Co., Ltd., a company located in Namdong Industrial Complex, was the first in Korea to independently develop tube fittings, which had previously been entirely imported from overseas.

Unilok Co., Ltd., which has narrowed the technological gap with overseas countries through active product research and development, has now secured the best technology in the field of valve manufacturing both domestically and overseas.

For this reason, Unilok Co., Ltd. is naturally referred to as a ‘leader’ in the domestic and international valve manufacturing industry.

CEO Yoo explains that the reason Unilok Co., Ltd. was able to grow like this was because it used the crisis as an opportunity.

During the financial crisis in 1998 and 2009, CEO Yoo chose innovation rather than restructuring such as job cuts.

He said, “The experience of the foreign exchange crisis actually helped the company’s management,” and “We were able to survive together by tenaciously maintaining employment and adopting a symbiotic policy of taking care of our partners’ work.”

In addition, the company did not neglect product research and development by forming a task force (TF) using surplus manpower. As a result, the company grew from sales of 10 billion won in 2008 to a company with sales of 30 billion won.

Overseas exports also achieved a 10-fold growth, reaching $1 million in exports in 2005 and $10 million in 2012. Unilok's valve manufacturing products are exported to 43 countries around the world.

In particular, Unilok Co., Ltd. is playing a leading role in the field of intellectual property management among companies in the Incheon region.

Unilok Co., Ltd. prevents intellectual property (IP) disputes through research on patent trends and prior technologies and files stable patent applications. Over the past five years, approximately 70 cases, including patented designs, have been registered domestically and internationally.

In addition, we developed new technologies and products using industry-academia cooperation, secured patents, and introduced a compensation system for employee inventions.

For this reason, CEO Yoo received the honor of being selected by the Incheon Chamber of Commerce and Industry as the winner of the ‘34th Commerce and Industry Awards’ in the intellectual property management category.

CEO Yoo plans to supplement the company's property value by applying for patents for at least five new products and existing products every year.
